How a build goes

From the first callto launch.

  1. OP 01Intake

A short call or a form.

About twenty minutes. I ask what the business does and who your best customers are, then send a fixed quote.

    step / 01next ↓
  2. OP 02Plan

    Pages and words, then looks.

I work out the pages with you: what each one says and what a visitor should do there. I plan the search setup at the same time.

    step / 02next ↓
  3. OP 03Build

A preview link in week one.

I write it in code, with no page builder. You get a private link in the first week and can leave comments as it comes together.

    step / 03next ↓
  4. OP 04Launch

    Launch and hand-over.

The site goes live and everything moves into your name. Fixes and small changes are free for two months. After that you can add hosting or SEO work, or not.

The accounts transfer to you at launch, with the code, the domain and the content.
  • 03

Questions

Things peopleask first.

09 questions

  • Q 01Why are your quotes lower than an agency's?

Because it's just me. You aren't paying for an office or an account manager, and most builds start from layouts I've already built and run in production.

  • Q 02Do you use WordPress or page builders?

No. I write every site in code, on Next.js. That's a big part of why my live builds score 95 or better on Lighthouse, and it means there's no pile of plugins to keep updated.

  • Q 03Are you a marketing agency?

No. I'm a developer. I've spent five years building the landing pages, tracking and SEO tools behind ad campaigns, so your site comes ready for search and for whoever runs your ads. I don't run ads myself, but I can tell you what to look for in an agency that does.

  • Q 04Who owns the website when it's done?

You do. The code, the domain, the content and the analytics accounts move into your name at launch. If you leave, it all goes with you.

  • Q 05How soon can you start, and how long does it take?

Usually within a week. Templated builds take 2 to 4 weeks and semi-custom 4 to 6. Either way you'll have a preview link in the first week.

  • Q 06What do you need from me?

A logo if you have one, photos of your work, and a description of what you do and who your best customers are. I handle the structure and the technical side, and shape the page copy from what you give me.

  • Q 07What happens after launch?

For two months, fixes and small changes are free. After that you can host it yourself, or pay me for hosting, SEO, analytics or a monthly retainer.

  • Q 08Do you build apps too?

Yes, one at a time, for businesses with the budget custom software needs. I'm also building a few products of my own. If a website would solve the problem, it's the faster and cheaper option, and it's most of what I do.

  • Q 09Can you fix my current site instead of rebuilding?

Sometimes. Send me the URL and I'll tell you, for free, whether fixing it or rebuilding it would cost less.
